In 2004, his song 'Back Together on the Beach' was listed in the Dutch Mega Top 100, followed by numerous live performances on TV and radio. Recently Diederick recorded the song "For A Little Friend of Mine", together with the well known Dutch actress, singer and TV host Chantal Janzen. The song was written for and dedicated to the BIO Foundation for handicapped children.
"I have always looked for inspiration and leadership for a sense that problems can be solved, and for the will and vision to stay the course. I believe that van Gogh epitomized those very qualities focus, determination and perseverance one of the many reasons I wanted to express his art in music. Vincent van Gogh was a very complex and enigmatic character. He was very socially awkward, and he suffered from some highly disturbing health problems, but beyond that basic profile, van Gogh was far from what the average modern person believes -- a raving madman who cut off his ear; an isolated and tragic loner; an artistic failure who was recognized only after his death. In reality -- Van Gogh was an amazing man who epitomized sacrifice, passion, perseverance, focus, loyalty and being true to one's self. And far from being a timid sheep in an artistic herd -- he was a rebel, an innovator, a visionary and a courageous leader. When I understood that, I knew that he was someone whose work and vision I would express with music. If he had lived in our time, he would have been a rockstar.
'Van Gogh by Van Eck', recorded at Hollywood's fabled Capitol Records, features van Eck's smooth crooner voice and lush strings played by some of L.A.'s top classical and pop musicians, and each song works together with a selected painting to take the viewer / listener deeper and deeper into the artist's world.
